This training program is intended for people preparing for entry-level help desk, technical support, or desktop support work. It is also suitable for career changers and current support staff who want structured practice. No previous professional IT experience is required.

Skills and Applied Practice

You will study desktop support, Windows administration, networking, identity and access management, endpoint security, troubleshooting, service tickets, incident prioritization, and Service Level Agreement procedures.

Learning Experience and Assessment

The training takes approximately 72 hours to complete and includes 12 video lessons, 11 guided hands-on labs, downloadable lab guides, practice quizzes, and four module assessments. Learners complete the curriculum and required assessments.

Credential Earned Upon Successful Completion

Learners who satisfy all program requirements earn the BrightLine Certified IT Help Desk & Technical Support Specialist™ credential. It may be added to professional profiles and independently verified through BrightLine’s public credential-verification portal.

Course Content

Module 1 : Hardware Diagnostics and Desktop Operating Systems
This module introduces the hardware and operating-system foundations of professional desktop support. Students will examine the internal components of a computer, learn how Windows manages hardware and system resources, and explore the tools used to configure, diagnose, and deploy workplace computers. By the end of the module, students will be prepared to identify common hardware failures, navigate Windows administrative environments, manage storage devices and drivers, and explain the processes used to image, deploy, and maintain enterprise workstations.

Module 2 Enterprise Network Architecture and Connectivity
This module introduces the networking principles that allow computers, servers, and business applications to communicate within an enterprise environment. Students will examine how IP addresses, subnet masks, default gateways, and DHCP services are used to identify devices and manage network connectivity. The module also explores the roles of switches, routers, and Ethernet cabling, followed by practical diagnostic techniques using essential Windows command-line tools. By the end of the module, students will be able to interpret basic network configurations, identify common connectivity problems, and apply a structured process to isolate network failures.

Module 3 Access Control, Identity, and Account Management
This module examines how enterprise organizations manage user identities, system access, and security permissions through Microsoft Active Directory. Students will learn how domain services centralize the administration of users, computers, shared resources, and authentication across a business network. The module also covers user-profile administration, secure password resets, account lockouts, Group Policy Objects, NTFS folder permissions, and permission inheritance. By the end of the module, students will be able to support common identity and access-management tasks while applying appropriate security and verification procedures.

Module 4 Security Baselines, Troubleshooting, and Help Desk Operations
This module brings together the technical, analytical, and service-management responsibilities of a professional IT support technician. Students will examine the security controls used to protect enterprise workstations, including antivirus software, host-based firewalls, malware containment procedures, and Safe Mode troubleshooting. The module also introduces a structured methodology for identifying, testing, and resolving technical problems. Students will then explore the service-ticket lifecycle, incident prioritization, documentation standards, and Service Level Agreements. By the end of the module, students will be prepared to respond to technical incidents in a secure, organized, and professionally accountable manner.
