Course Content

Module 1 — Foundations of Professional Medical Interpreting
This module establishes the professional foundation of healthcare interpreting. Learners examine the interpreter's role within the healthcare encounter, ethical responsibilities, confidentiality, accuracy, impartiality, and professional boundaries. The module also introduces the communication relationship among the patient, healthcare professional, and interpreter and prepares learners to distinguish interpreting from advocacy, counseling, clinical explanation, or independent decision-making.
